THE WINTER BLUES: COBALT

What's your take on winter? According to Punxsutawney Phil, we are in for six more weeks of winter, so hopefully you are on board! I actually kind of love our recent weather with super cold days and beautiful sweeping snow storms. It's fun to bundle up and frolic in the snow!

Anywho, as I pull on my hunter boots for the umpteenth day in the row, I started thinking about winter fashion and how it can get in a rut. We need to bring some pops of color into the boringness of black, brown and grey that tends to seem into our wardrobes come November! Are you with me?

So here's my take on the "winter blues"—a round up of juicy cobalt gear that will brighten up your closet in a matter of moments. Hope you like it!

I'M OBSESSIVE ABOUT THESE BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Every woman has her secrets, tricks, and habits. As ladies go I am extremely low maintenance—I hate blow drying my hair (it's too thick and thus drying takes forever), prefer a t-shirt and jeans to heels any day, and can only stand the most basic of beauty routines.Because of that, I make a serious effort to find products that are simple to apply/use but still make you look and feel lovely. Just in case you are looking for some inspiration (maybe in time for Valentine's Day?) here are some of my can't-live-without beauty products.

ALICE BARTLETT NAIL ART

Phew! Who knew getting married was such a whirlwind? We had an absolutely amazing day and even more amazing honeymoon in Iceland. I can't wait to share some of the 3000 (yes, 3000!) photos I took on the trip.

But until I manage to process and organize those, I will be doing some more of my short and sweet posts to get you back in the swing of things. That said, I have been dying to share this crazy nail art with you by the artist Alice Bartlett. It seems Bartlett went to a hobby shop in search of inspiration and she came out with astro turf and miniature figures for model making. Adding these to her lovely nails she created tiny vignettes on her fingers on one hand and photographed the scenes with her other hand. Cool, right?

Check out more of her work here.

MINTY FRESH

MINTY FRESH

I read somewhere that apparently the newest trend in fashion is pastels. As you likely know from reading this blog, I prefer a big, bold color to any light and dainty hue, but I can make an exception for mint. Something about it just seems cool, unfussy and sophisticated.

So I thought a little round up all of things 'mint' was in order. Hopefully it will help you start your weekend feeling fresh and clean! Enjoy!

1 ~ monochromatic outfit
2 ~ little geometry pillow
3 ~ swiss alps cushion cover
4 ~ kimono fat wizard watch
5 ~ satchel photo
6 ~ pineapple mint agua fresca
7 ~ essie nail polish
8 ~ anthropologie ad for swimsuit
9 ~ dwr table globe
10 ~ baggu pouch

GRAY & GREY

ESSIE

Gray is totally the next black. Or at least that is what it looks like based on all the lovely manicures I see on elegant women in the New York subways. I am particularly taken with the gray and silver offerings at Essie. Essie polish is sold at my local Duane Reade but can you find their full selection online here.

I am partial to the top left color, called "Chinchilly", which I used last night. It is a shimmering combination of gray and taupe with a hint of lavender thrown in.
