STICKY NOTES ON STERIODS: MAGNETIC

I discovered the amazingness that is Magnetic a month or two and can't believe I forgot to post it until now! Magnetic is a radical new take on an office standby: paper! How can you transform paper into something groundbreaking you ask? You make it possible to stick to anything. Like post it notes on steroids, Magnetic products use static electricity to stick to everything from brick to leather, fabric to plastic and more. Plus you can write on them with ease. Crazy awesome, right?

They offer a ton of colors and types of products (see the mock ups of sticky notes, notepads and bulletin boards above), all available for preorder now on their website here. Now the trouble is deciding which one to pick . . . .

A BEAUTIFUL TRASH CAN?

When you live in a tiny NYC apartment, space is at a premium. Combine that spatial concern with my obsessive interest in minimalist design and you have me drooling over this prototype: the Swing Bin. This small trash can is—dare I say it?—gorgeous. Even better? This spectacularly cinematic promotional video.

DRAWING ON AIR: LIX 3D PEN

This week I read about some crazy and deliriously exciting new technology: 3D pens. What does that mean? Well, these fabulous instruments are pens that dispense a synthetic polymer (aka a specialty plastic) literally in the air as you write. With them you can draw in three dimensions. Is your mind blown yet?

Apparently MoMA Store already has one in stock (how did I not know this, given my obsession with that shop?), but this prototype by Lix on Kickstarter looks even more amazing. The pen seems so sleek, cool and easy to use that my mind is having trouble computing all the crazy technology it must hold to be able to effortlessly 'print' your drawings in real time as the video above shows.

No wonder the project has received over ten times its funding goal—this thing looks like magic.

Anyway, if any of my nearest and dearest happen to be reading this and happen to put in an order in anticipation of a future gift-giving event I would be ecstatic. (Hint, hint!) WELCOME TO THE WEEKEND

Whoa, where did this week go? I have a theory that short weeks at work are actually the craziest; at least for me, I have less time to cram in more work than usual to make up for my hedonistic laziness over the long weekend. Pair that with a very busy exhibition schedule here at the Whitney Museum and I am wiped!

Do you have anything fun planned this weekend? My in-laws are coming to visit and, given the beautiful weather forecast, I am hoping to take them here and here (maybe with a stop here for a cookie in between). Hope you are going to be taking advantage of the crisp fall air wherever you are!

For those of you who are stuck inside for the next couple days, or just want some procrastination inspiration at work today, here are some fun things to keep you busy:

I don't care that this place is in Minnesota, I want to go there now.

This is hilarious (and kinda disappointing) at the same time.

I need to stockpile this and this in black or red. (Won't they look great together?)

This looks super useful, and I think I would make it my mission to top the Today Show (there version is boring!).

I have been a die-hard reader my whole life and I did not know half of these things.

I need to learn all of these (and these). Now. And I need to try to use them without giggling.

I got in on this (so smart!) and wish I had gotten in on this (cool!).

If only Nemo's Dad had had access to this . . .

Okay, maybe Facebook isn't all evil . . .

This woman is incredible. We would all be lucky to have even half of her poise, grace and downright awesomeness.

IMPROV EVERYWHERE DOCUMENTARY

If you have been reading the O.I. for a while now, you know that I love everything related to Improv Everywhere. Love! Well hold onto your socks people because Improv Everywhere is hitting the big screen! The founders of the group, Matt and Andrew, have been working on a documentary for years now and need some help raising the funds to get the project finished.
