WE'RE BACK!

We got back from our two week adventure in the United Kingdom super late on Sunday night. I am still trying to get back into a normal routine (like not eating a proper English Breakfast every day (sigh), getting to bed at a normal time, and actually writing this dang dissertation), but I wanted to check in with you guys and let you know that we had a great time and there will certainly be some photos and recaps of the trip to come. In the meantime, I stumbled across this funny round up of images of majorly overloaded vehicles from all over the world. It reminded me about how, during our trip, we stuffed our miniature-sized Kia full of our overflowing luggage and attempted to navigate the tiny (read: the size of a golf cart path) roads in much of back woods Scotland. We got used to using "laybys" regularly—small pull overs on the side of the road—that laughably looked like rain gutters. Combine that with a ludicrous number of Highland cattle and bleating sheep in the road and many of our drives felt like the last photo—borderline chaos!Hope you had a great holiday weekend. If you are interested, more crazy photos of overloaded vehicles can be found here.

RANDOM THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY . . .

Just some things I have come across recently that make me smile and are sure to brighten your mood too . . . .

High top sneakers shaped like dinosaurs with a fabulous kickstarter video to boot. (MIND. BLOWN.)

A hose attachment that lets you fill and tie 100 water balloons in one minute. (Instant summer fun!)

This amazing illustration (Supermannnnn!) by Phil Jones.

Speaking of masked men, Strongbad is back! (And there goes my afternoon!)

And, last but not least, Jordan (from Oh Happy Day) started an amazing new company selling these colorful string lights. (#wishlisted!)

What makes you (randomly) happy? Anything I missed?

HAVE A LOVELY LATE SUMMER WEEKEND!

What are you guys up to this weekend? I am taking off for Connecticut tomorrow to help out with my Dad's 70th birthday party (recap and DIYs next week!). So I am leaving you with some links to distract you on Friday and tide you through the weekend.

Photo above is from this (mouth watering) article!

I have been in an old school music mode this week, rewatching some 90s music videos. Check out these blasts from the past (cartoon cat, teleportation, bagpipes)!

Secret book paintings (so cool!!).

Everything you need to know about the latest Apple announcements.

Why your mind . . . wanders.

New (cabin) on the block.

Turning back the (cellular) clock.

Can you imagine being stuck in traffic for nine days?!!

An invisible skyscraper (what about the birds?).

Mmmm, tastes . . . fuzzy.

Letters to Ms Magazine.

Best birthday present for this polar bear EVER.

Whoa! Your touch tone could have looked like this.

Wouldn't want to meet this guy on a leisurely afternoon swim.

Step away from the computer and s-t-r-e-t-c-h....

Ready for wedding season to be over? This may make you smile.

As a Patriots fan and wife of an HLS alum, I find this pretty darn funny.

Have a great weekend, everyone! See you back here next week.

GANGNAM STYLE

Fill this under very random but highly hilarious. Have you seen this new music video, sweeping the internet, of Korean artist PSY singing his hit song 'Gangnam Style'? The lyrics apparently point to an incisive critique of Korea's upper class social norms, but the scenes in the video point to a crazy pop frenzy of ridiculousness. It's pretty fantastically over-the-top.

Learn more about PSY here (he went to BU, crazy!), read the Atlantic article about the video here, and see his funny appearance on the Ellen Show here.

(Also, in the last scene, that backdrop totally looks like every school photo I took from 1994-1997, ha!)

HIGH FIVE!

INTERNET HIGH FIVE
There are lots of great things to be excited about this weekend: both of my parents' birthdays, beautiful fall weather, good books to read and food to eat, not to mention great football games to watch. So I am leaving you with this awesome website that allows you to give someone a 'high five' (because weekends definitely merit high fives) over the internet.  How hilarious is that?

Hope your weekend if full of fun and adventure; if you want to celebrate it like me, you can hand out the high fives here.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

My friend Sheryl pointed me towards something amazing yesterday: Air New Zealand's creative (and totally hilarious) safety videos. Wouldn't you be much happier listening to that boring stewardess speech over and over if Richard Simmons were actually delivering it (in sparkly spandex of course!)?

But it turns out Air New Zealand has not stopped there. It seems they have hired a suave charismatic spokesperson (or should I say spokespuppet?) too, named Rico. Here he is laying down a track with Snoop Dogg. Yes, that Snoop Dogg. Who is wearing an All Blacks jersey, so he must be a true Kiwi right?

See much more of Rico's funny escapades at the Air New Zealand YouTube channel here.

(And while these are not jokes, I thought they were an appropriately zany way to kick off April. Happy April Fool's Day!)
