FABULOUS FIFTIES ROUNDUP

I have never gotten into Mad Men, but I can appreciate the chicness and modernity that permeated design and fashion during the 1950s. This round up aims to fall somewhere between Jackie O and Charles and Ray Eames with items inspired by a super stylish dinner party, complete with a gorgeous ride to get you there and the perfect party frock.

DIY WISHLIST

Now that the blitz of wedding preparations is over, I have to say that I have been missing all the craftiness. Over the last year I was knee deep in DIY projects for the 'big day' and now all I have time for is studying. Sigh.

But that doesn't mean I can't daydream about the projects I would like to do if I could manage to free up an hour or two. Here are some of my current favorites . . . which ones would you take on?

DIY HEART TOTE
DIY POLKA PILLOWCASES
DIY FOLDOVER CLUTCH
DIY SUCCULENT POT

Say Yes to Hoboken has the best DIY projects. Seriously, amazing. I had a hard time narrowing it down, but here are my top four: Leather Strap Heart Tote, Spotty Pillowcases, Leather Fold Over Clutch, Handmade Clay Pots.

DIY FRUIT BALLOONS
DIY MAGNET WALL

Oh Happy Day also has a big repository of DIY-goodness, particularly projects for kids and parties. The Fruit Balloon tutorial and the Magnet Wall are two of the most inspirational.

DIY GOLD LEAF BOWL

How cute are these gold leaf bowls? I think I am going to make a ton and give them out as holiday presents.

DIY GOLD STAPLES

Also, simple but brilliant these DIY Gold Staples fall into the 'why didn't I think of that' category.

DIY BOOKMARK

As someone who has a book in her hand for at least several hours a day, these Geometric Bookmarks would help make studying a bit more fun.

DIY WALL ART

I don't have the wall space for this, but if you just moved into a new place and are overwhelmed by the bare walls this DIY Wall Art piece would be awesome.

GIY GEOMETRIC MOBILE

Same thing here. I think these sparkly mobiles would look lovely against white rental walls, over a baby's crib, in an entryway or to decorate a party.

BRILLIANT GEOMETRY

MAGNAPAINT
MAGNAPAINT

I recently came across the super cool geometric paintings by Julie Bonifay (of Etsy store magnapaint) on my favorite blog Chroma Lab. These small hand-painted works are highly reasonably priced—$20 to $40!—and would make a fabulous colorful (and economical!) addition to your home.

THEMIS MOBILE

The paintings remind me of this fabulous mobile (which has made the blog rounds over the last several months) by Themis, now on sale at the MoMA Store for $28. Or the work of the amazing Ronald Davis, as posted about here.

That's all for now folks! Hope you have a great weekend!

PUKA PUKA DOT MOBILE

DOT MODERN MOBILE
DOT MODERN MOBILE

I have been looking to add a mobile to our apartment decor for a long time (that and a collection of bouncy balls, a movie marquee, a photo booth . . . the wish list goes on and on!). I was originally thinking of something black and modern (like the one I mentioned here), but this soft "polka dot" mobile by Puka Puka is super adorable. I know it is supposed to be for "babies", but I think it would be wonderful to have two or three of these hanging above a long dining table. They would certainly give a pop of color to a white-walled rental!

See more lovely handmade mobiles, even some intended for adults, at Puka Puka here.

JUST SOMETHING I MADE

I just discovered a fabulous DIY blog called "Just Something I Made." It has an incredible array of really creative and fun projects, including these two puppies: a tiny tourists mobile (so you are always being admired!) and roller stamp that makes pennants! I can't wait to make both of these!

Check out the tourists here, the stamp here and the blog in general here.
