BACK TO SCHOOL ROUNDUP

I don't know about you guys, but I am majorly in back to school mode. I spent much of the summer relaxing and doing fun things (like planning my Dad's 70th birthday party this weekend!) but now that fall is setting in I am ready to be all business again (no not this business time!). With the start of the semester I am in full swing with my dissertation research and thought I would round up some fun school supplies that are guaranteed to brighten up any desk this fall and, more importantly, keep that momentum going!

one | bright ideas pocket notebook, helloquiettiger, $5

two | le pen, uchida, $1.69 each

three | scotch precision ultra edge scissors, amazon, $8.99

four | bigso desktop stockholm file storage, the container store, $19.99

five | 2013 tissue calendar, russell+hazel, on sale for $20

six | eight days-a-week planner, bob's your uncle, $14

seven | semicolon sticky page markers, see jane work, $8

eight | aqua starter set, poppin, $40

p.s. While this is a colorful, lighthearted post I am still a New Yorker and therefore want to honor the tragic events that befell my fair city (and the nation) twelve years ago. Every year, to be sure I never forget, I watch this moving story about one of the many heroes that made the ultimate sacrifice that day. Please take a moment today to stop and honor the victims and survivors of 9/11, not to mention hug your family members and be grateful for all our daily blessings.

In case you didn't know, it's St. Patrick's Day today here in the states. I don't particularly celebrate St. Patrick's Day (being of Swedish, German, and French descent), but I thought it would be appropriate to share some cool green products I have come across recently to mark the occasion.

Without further ado, from left to right, top to bottom:

DESK DOUBLE DUTY: EYE CANDY MEETS UTILITY

Having spent a lot of time recently staring at the void on my desk where Humperdink used to be (it was a very long week without him), I have decided to share some of the sexy desk accessories I have come across lately.  All four of these products follow the form and function mantra, maintaining a sleek exterior while able to stand up to the tests of time.  From top to bottom:
  1. Letter Holder (I just purchased this and LOVE it!  You might remember it from a desk shot long ago in Blueprint Magazine.  It is made by Koray Ozgen and is a MOMA exclusive which you can buy here for $28),
  2. Royal's Paper Shredder (this clean white shredder is small enough to fit under your desk, sturdy enough to cut through a cd, and inexpensive enough at $49 to save your bank.  Available here through Amazon and seen in Domino Magazine),
  3. MOMA Perpetual Calendar (carried by the MOMA Design Store and up for purchase here, this calendar will last forever and brighten up a boring cubicle; simple slide the orange face of the calendar until the proper dates appear under their proper days of the week),
  4. LaCie's "Little Disk" (available in 80GB, 120GB, 160GB, 250GB, and 320GB, this little black number hooks into your computer's USB port, has a 2 year warranty and ranges in price from $90 - $210.  Plus, measuring in at roughly 3" x 5", it will leave plenty of space for all of the Letter Holder, Calendar and Shredder in your workspace).
Maybe if my desk housed this many pretty things, I would actually spend time at it . . .
